POLITICAL SATIRE
Marco De Angelis publishes editorial cartoons since 1975. He has published over 5000 cartoons on Il Popolo from 1979 to 1997, many others on Il Messaggero, 1996 -'98, Il Mattino, La Repubblica, current and political journals, such as La Discussione, Prospettive nel mondo, L’Agricoltore, Impresa Artigiana, Analisi Italia, Amministrazione Civile, L’ Eco di San Gabriele, Shalom, Lavorare, Confronti, and others, humorous newspapers like PlayRoma, Help !, Comix, the new editions of Il Travaso and Marc'Aurelio, Buduàr.
Abroad, he distributes his cartoons in Europe, United States and Canada also through agencies: from 1984 with Rothco Cartoons, from 1990 with Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate, from 2003 to 2019 from CartoonArts International (formerly CWS) and The New York Syndicate. From 2019 he distributes his works with CartoonArts International, Go Comics and Andrews McMeel Universal. He created cartoons on the most disparate topics, from national and international political relations to current issues such as environment, society, the Third World, technology, etc.

GAG CARTOONS
He publish humorous cartoons since 1975 on many newspapers in Italy and abroad for a total of about 150 titles starting with PlayRoma, then Grazia, I Gialli Mondadori, Panorama, Help!, Comic Art, Comix, Il Travaso, Marc'Aurelio, Buduàr, magazines specialized as TP Public Transportation, Lavorare, Telex Health, Nutrition in Medicine and many others.
Abroad he distributes his drawings in Europe, United States and Canada also through agencies, since 1984 with Rothco Cartoons, since 1990 with Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate, since 2003 to 2019 from CartoonArts International (formerly CWS) and The New York Syndicate. 

From 2019 he distributes his works with CartoonArts International and Go Comics, with Andrews McMell Universal. He publishes and distributes cartoons also on the web platform Cartoon Movement.

ILLUSTRATIONS for newspapers and magazines
His illustrations are published since the late '70s in numerous newspapers and magazines,
in particular Il Popolo (from 1979 to 1997), Il Messaggero (from 1996 to 2003) where he made also many reconstructions of news events, La Repubblica (the Mercurio insert, 1989) and La Repubblica-Metropoli (from 2005), La Repubblica, TP Public Transport, Telex Health, Nutrition in Medicine, Working, Analysis Italy, Civil Administration, Wholesale Evolution, Liberosport, Roma Sindacale, etc.
He also realized illustrations for the 28 magazines, distributed in 5 languages ​​in 40 countries for the European Language Institute: Azzurro, Ciao, Ragazzi, Insieme, Tot of English, Kid, Teen, Jeunes, Voilà, C'est Facile!, Ensemble, Jeunes, Fertig... los!,Zusammen, Kinder, Freunde, Vamos!, Chicos, Muchacos, Amigos, Adulescens, Iuvenis and others.
He also realized illustrations for the website of La Repubblica (American Presidential Elections and Mondial Soccer Championship), and many others for some app for ipad: “Flying on the Great War” and “Iron Horse”. After two days, the latter app was already second in the ranking in the Apple store.


ILLUSTRATIONS for books
He has created many illustrations for children’s books for publishers such as Giunti, De Agostini, Lapis, La Scuola, San Paolo, Salani, European Language Institute, Edizioni Cinque Lune, etc.
For De Agostini he created as author “Ciuccino Mio” (2007) and illustrated with 300 drawings “A story a day, fairy tales for a year”, by Marcello Argilli (2003), “What do fish all day underwater?”, “What are the bees all the day in the beehive?” (2004), “What do sharks do all day in the sea?” (2006), by Eleonora De Sabata.
He also made drawings for the “Tim Tribù” campaign linked to the “La tribù del pallone” series (2007).
For Giunti he illustrated the seven volumes of the Anthology for the middle school “Ciak, reads!” (1999, now published by La Scuola), “The book of grandparents and children”, by Ezio Ponzo (2001), “The twenty-seven suitcases of Ennesimo Quaranta”,(Premio Bancarellino 2002) and “The left foot of Arnulfo Sementera”, 2003 both by Comini and Minneci. “Question? Reply!” (2002), “Search the word!” (2002), “It's Christmas” (2002), “Fairy tale quiz!” (2003), “101 Superquiz” (2004), “Stop &“ (2004), “Enigmistica Superqui” (2005).
For Lapis he realized, as an author, “Escape in the Third Millennium” (2000) and illustrated “Magic Numbers and Roving Stars”, by Anna Parisi, First Legambiente Prize for Scientific Publication (2001), and published by various foreign publishers.
For La Scuola he illustrated the six volumes of a mathematics course for the Medias, “Shipping through numbers and figures” (2003), and two volumes of a Course in Technology, “Computer Science” (2004) and “Education for Civil Cohabitation” (2006).
For European Language Institute from 1994 he created illustrations for 28 publications distributed in 5 languages ​​in over 40 countries: Azzurro, Ragazzi, Insieme, Tot of English, Kid, Teen, Jeunes, Voilà, C'est Facile!, Ensemble
, Zusammen, Kinder, Freunde, Vamos!, Muchacos, Adulescens, and others.

For Edizioni San Paolo he illustrated “La Spirale del salumiere” e “Ci vorrebbe un amico”, ("The spiral of the butcher" and "It would take a friend") written by Antonio Lubrano (2007).

For Salani he realized the illustrations of “The history of science told to children”,

by Anna Parisi (2020).

For Sax, he designed the cover of  ”Stop all: the rainbow!” (1992).

He also published illustrations on The second manual of the joke and the Handbook of the vignette (Mondadori 1982 and 1988), “800 but does not show them” (Ed. Porziuncola), “The bread from the seven crusts”, “Minicrociere”, “I say only to you”, “A pinch of good mood”, “The finest International Political Cartoons of our tim”, “Was is worth it?” (WittyWorld editions), “War’s das wert?” (Semmel Verlach), “Valio la pena?” (Ediciones de la Flor) and others.

He created many illustrations and covers for Edizioni Cinque Lune, Il Pennino and many other publishers.

 

In 1990, Coldiretti published “L’Agriumorista” (The Agrihumorist), a collection of his satirical cartoons published on the magazine Il Coltivatore.

Confartigianato has brought together his cartoons and those of Giannelli published on the Artisan Enterprise in a publication: “Non c’è niente da ridere” (There is nothing to laugh about), 1989.

The Transport Association (Asstra) has collected cartoons and illustrations published in the monthly TP Trasporti Pubblici since 1996 in two volumes: “Mondo Bus” (2008), and “Fantabinario” (2010). For Asstra he is also the author in 2011 of “Galateo del Trasporto Pubblico”.

 

As illustrator, Marco De Angelis ranges from fiction and teaching for children to that for adolescents. Animals and fantasy beings are among the characters that have received the greatest sympathy. With his drawings he also interprets in a humorous or "semi-serious" key topics and personalities of the History, of which he is a studious, with particular attention to some periods and countries (for example: Ancient Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages, Risorgimento, North America), or myths and legends of the classical and Nordic culture. He is also specialized in uniformology and military history, which enjoys both "serious" and irony. Occasionally he has also realized realistic illustrations of historical subjects, while many of those published in large numbers in the newspapers with which he has collaborated are of a symbolic-surreal kind.

Marco De Angelis from his first exhibition in 1972 to the 25th Bordighera International Humor Salon has exhibited his works in over 970 national and international exhibitions and competitions in Italy and abroad.

He has received 150 prizes and awards.

His cartoons and illustrations appear in about 550 catalogs and publications related to the various events.

From his first participation in an exhibition at the International Salon of Humor of Bordighera (Italy) in 1972 with his first recognition in '75 (Bordighera Press Award). He has received about 150 awards in national and international exhibitions and competitions. Golden Palm at the 50th Salon of Bordighera in 1997, Golden Date at Bordighera in 1989 and Silver Date in 1997 and 1990. For twice the 1st Council of Europe Prize at Bordighera in 1978 and 1990. In 2022 he was one of the three finalists of the Editorial Cartoon Division of the prestigious Reuben Award of the US National Cartoonists Society, a very rare case for a non-American and unique for an Italian.

He was a finalist in 2020 and 2021 in the European Cartoon Award.

 

He has held personal exhibitions in Rome (1984), Vasto, Nemi, Nola, Ischia, Forte dei Marmi, Le Piastre, Fano, Prague, Stockholm, Bordighera, Saint Just le Martel, WOW – Comics Museum in Milan, Bangalore, as well as participating in various collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad.

He was selected by Cartoon Home Network International as one of the 10 best cartoonists of 2018 and 2020 in the world.

 

Many of his works are exhibited in Italian and foreign museums including Tolentino, Stockholm (Strindberg Museum), Skopje, Istanbul, Teheran, Boca Raton (Florida, Museum of Humor and Comics).

 

He has been a member of about 50 juries in cartoon competitions and literary contests: Bordighera, Rome, Tolentino, Fano, Salsomaggiore, Busseto, Le Piastre, Termini Imerese, Conversano, Legnica (Poland), Sisak (Croatia), Kyrenia (Cyprus), Deva (Romania), Kragujevac (Serbia), Caen (France), Oslo (Norway), Belgrade (Serbia), Londra (United Kingdom), Tunis (Egypt), Istanbul (Turkey), Skopje (North Macedonia), the literary Prize "Racconti nella Rete" of Lucca and others. In Salsomaggiore he is a consultant and a jury member for the World Humor Awards competition from the first edition in 2016.

JOURNALISM

He began his journalistic career in 1980 with the employment as a journalist at the national political daily Il Popolo, where he had started collaborating in 1979 and where he worked as a political cartoonist and illustrator until 1997 (year of the newspaper's closure). In these years, in addition to having made almost a total drawing of about 5000 every day, he works daily in the graphic service (deputy service manager), taking care of the layout of the newspaper and most of the specials, and then as a columnist in the Interior and Foreign editors - responsible for a year of the Foreign Service - in addition to having often written for the cultural pages articles on Art, Comics and History.

From 1996 to 2003 he collaborated as a cartoonist and illustrator (also with many reconstructions of news events) with the newspaper Il Messaggero, where he also laid out the newspaper for a few months, working in the graphic service.

He coordinated the cartoonists in Rome who collaborated on the satirical insert Ragù of the daily Mattino of Naples, on which he published many cartoons (1987-’88).

He is part of the national team of La Repubblica from 2003 to 2015. From 2005 to 2007 he is the graphic of the weekly annex Metropoli, where he also published many illustrations. In the other years, the national edition of the newspaper is laid out. Since 2015 he has been in a prepension due to the company's state of crisis. With Repubblica he had already collaborated in 1989 on the cultural insert "Mercurio", publishing some illustrations.

He has also written articles for other various newspapers such as Daily News, WittyWorld and Buduàr - Almanacco of light art.

He was "editor" from Italy of the American monthly magazine (later website) WittyWorld, founded and curated by Joseph George Szabo in the '80s and' 90s.

 

In 2012 he founded with Dino Aloi and Alessandro Prevosto the humor magazine "Buduàr ​​- almanac of light art", an online monthly magazine of humor and satire.

The three editors constitute the Central Committee, of which De Angelis is editor in chief, writing many articles and publishing cartoons and illustrations.

 

His name and his drawings during nearly forty years of activity have been cited and published hundreds of times in newspapers, magazines, websites, television programs, press releases in Italy and abroad for news or articles about awards, exhibitions or cultural events.

The paper documentation is collected in an archive consisting of numerous volumes.

 

As well as having a library of some thousands of books, as a lover of art, humorous graphics, comics, movies, animation and history, he collected precious and numerous comic book collections, catalogs of humorous graphic exhibitions, thousands of toy and model soldiers of various types and brands (with important pieces from the 19th century), model trains and boats, a rich historical archive of vintage photos, both military and civil, hats and various military or ethnic objects. He is also a studious and expert on classical and Nordic epic literature, Celtic music (Ireland, Scotland, Brittany) and American country.

 

       Marco De Angelis has been married since 1990, has a son and daughter and lives in Rome.
